Eye map

Hi beauties,

I got a number of questions about the previous post as people did not understand where to put what so, I decided to start a beginners’ classroom.

Today, we are going to label the eye as regards makeup application. I hope this makes future posts easier to understand.

**The (mobile) lid can be divided into 3 parts –inner, middle & outer lid. This is where eye shadow is applied mostly.

**the eye crease is the fold above the lid. For people with small eyes, Asian type eyes, it is almost non-existent as the eyeballs do not protrude at all. To better define the crease, dark colours are applied to this space (contouring- giving the illusion of shadows)

**browbone area is the space directly below the eyebrows sitting on top of the browbone. A highlight colour is added to this area to draw attention to the brows.

**Above crease is that area most people don’t know what to do with. You do not want you highlight colour sitting by itself. A transition colour can be added to this area to bring together the highlight & crease colours. An eyeshadow close to the skin shade can be used to blend out the crease and highlight colours for a polished pro-like eye makeup.

**Outer-V- if you close your eyes, u can feel your eye socket with your fingers. The base of the v is the outer corner of the eye and the arms go towards the outer lid and the eye crease. Putting dark eye shadow in this area is common in many eye makeup styles.

**Tear duct is the inner corner of the eye. Light eye shadows are applied in most looks to highlight this area. Adding eye shadow to this area ensures flow of eye shadow from the lid to the lower lashline for great finish.

**Inner eye rim is the flat space where eyeliners are applied on the lower lid (same can be done for the upper lid especially for people with very small lid space just to darken the root of the lashes)

**Lashline (upper & lower) is the areas where the lashes grow out of. Liner is usually applied on the upper lid into the lash line. Eyeliners can be smudged into the lashes for smokey looks or different colours applied depending on the look you are going for.
I hope this is helpful.

  1. There's no way I'll benefit from this without acknowledging you. I'm a budding makeup artist that can't afford a class just yet and this has really been a grey area. I've learnt a lot. In fact, this tutorial is especially for me. God bless you. Please keep the posts coming.
